Your weekend forecast.....

Evening folks, Well the picture above may be a scene out of a disaster movie, but realistically southern Britain, remains very fragile with more flooding and stormy winds. The River Severn at Worcester down to Gloucester remains on alert with more flooding likely and record levels at that with all the rain falling over Wales. Tonight will see squally winds along with at times some heavy rain. Winds will gust up to 60 mph maybe 70mph along the exposed Cotswolds ,Malverns and any other exposed part of the County. Winds will start to ease down in the early hours, to leave Saturday windy, with blustery showers and feeling colder again with some wintry stuff on high ground. Winds falling much lighter overnight into Sunday with a ground frost on Sunday morning with some black ice. Sunday itself will see some fine and calm conditions ,with some pleasant sunshine. Highs of 8c/46f. I will be back on Sunday. Have a great weekend , and Happy Valentines!! Ian.

Friday, 7 February 2014

Your weekend forecast....

Hi Folks. I feel like a stuck record as the weather will be the same this weekend with rain and gales. Tonight will see the wind increasing and rain moving in with some heavier bursts overnight. That clears to leave squally bands of showers even with hail and thunder and with gusts of wind up to 60mph. Sunday becomes colder with less in the way of rain and becoming less windy but still blustery. Some of the showers will become wintry on high ground . Have a great weekend....Ian.

Weather Round-Up for.......December 2013.

December started off on a quiet note during the first few days, but this was not to last! But during the 5th a major storm system affected North-East Britain with a vigourous depression moving south east down across the North sea. This gave picticularly eastern Britain and parts of North Wales seeing a significant storm surge, some of the worst since the infamous coastal floods of 1953! Then the month was blighted by stormy weather more picticularly the south and west of the Uk with Wales and the south west of England bearing the brunt of the rain, the stormy winds and unusually high tides causing some serious damage to coastal towns. But it was not just this area to have some stormy weather as all areas saw excessive rain and wind damage and river flooding. The Highest pressure was at the start of the month on the 1st with a 1031mbs being recorded, but the month was dominated by some unusually deep lows such as on the 23rd ,the second lowest barometric pressure to be recorded near the Uk on record, with even here a pressure recording on Christmas Eve of   961.7 mbs making it the lowest reading Ive ever recorded in nearly thirty years! Christmas day saw extensive flooding from Rivers etc and the Somerset levels began to flood and still are as I type ,with if anything the flooding getting worse as on the 06/02/14 with many weeks of continuous flooding. The rainfall came way about well above average at 110.4mms  [4.5 inches] compared to the average of  74mms.There were 20 wet days and 11 dry days. Highest wind gust was 42mph Southerly on the  23rd.Temperatures were well above average, with the day time temperature recorded was 9.1c/48f compared to the average of 7.7c/45f. The night temperature came out at 3.7c/37f compared to the average of 2.2c/36f. The lack of frost was also notable, but not surprising given the turbulent conditions. Highest temperature was 12.7c/54f on the 13th and the lowest was minus1c/30f. One of the most stormiest Decembers for decades!

Your weekend forecast......

Hi Folks...Another weekend and the same old weather, but a two way split this weekend with Sunday seeing the driest day although feeling colder. Saturday will dawn , wet and rather dismal with some rain and this theme carries on throughout the day with some heavier spells of rain possible and rather breezy making it feel rather cold although temperatures around average. The rain clears late Saturday night into Sunday morning and with clear skies ,temperatures will fall with some frost and fog, to greet us during Sunday morning so beware of ICE on untreated roads and pavements. The rest of the day will be fairly chilly with some sunshine breaking out, but temperatures dipping again Sunday night with a frost setting in! So all in all ,could be a lot worse! Back on Sunday with your week ahead video forecast....Ian.
